Australian Domain Names (ending in .com.au - .net.au - .org.au etc) are issued by auDA... the Australian Domain Name Authority.
To register one of these names, your application must go through an Accredited Domain Name Registrar, and at time of writing,
there are about 35 registrars.
PLEASE NOTE: Interstellar is NOT an accredited registrar, but we can place your domain name registration through any one
of the accredited registrars, on your behalf.
We can also act on your behalf to register domain names in most overseas localities and most Top Domain Levels.

The most appropriate Registrar for you
Needless to say, all the Registrars are very competitive, and we constantly monitor the situation to see who is currently offering
the best price... the best service... or additional services and benefits, and we try to place your registration with the most
appropriate Registrar.
For many years, we placed most registrations with one particular firm, who were very professional and reliable... they handled
applications quickly... responded promptly to special requests... and sent "count-down" alerts approaching the renewal dates,
such as 60 days to go, 30days, 14 days, etc. Now the registration business has become very competitive, and we monitor
the registrars to select the organisation that we feel will give you the best service and value at the time of your registration.
Domain Name selection
At Interstellar, we advise on the validity and suitability of your chosen domain name. Most domain names must comply with
certain strict and binding rules for acceptability. We often suggest names for you with appropriate "marketing" value.
We also check the availability of the chosen name, and advise on alternatives if the name you want is taken or not permitted.
It's YOUR domain name..!
We submit the application form on your behalf... BUT WE ALWAYS PLACE THE DOMAIN NAME IN YOUR NAME...
we do not claim or assume any control or proprietary interest in your name. It's your domain name and that's that..!
We DO create an email address at Interstellar for the acceptance of notices, alerts and renewal reminders etc, from the Registrar,
but if, at any time, you chose to hand the management of your domain name to anyone else... or decide to do it yourself...
we immediately and without question, pass all current information, IDs, passwords, etc, to you, and direct any emails or
correspondence from the Accredited Registrar directly to you.
Yes... we charge a profit-loaded price
We do NOT receive any commission or "kick backs" from any registrars... we DO charge a profit-loaded price to cover our time
and effort and the benefit of our experience in helping you select a potential domain name, and ensuring that you receive
renewal information in a timely fashion.
Be Australian - be SEEN to be Australian
We strongly recommend that Australian businesses should use Australian domain names for several reasons.
First...if you have an Australian-based registered firm, such as WhatName Industries, you should register whatname.com.au
rather than whatname.com (the international version), because you'll find that Australian-based website visitors will tend
to type the ".au" just from force of habit, when they try to view your web site or send you an email. If you have NOT registered
the Australian version, the "dot-com-dot-au" domain name will not exist, or if it does, it will not be yours, so email will not be
delivered to you, and visitors will not find your web site.
Also, it's appropriate to display an Australian domain name as it indicates that you are an Australian-based organisation...
an important value at this time..!
Every computer connected to the Internet has a unique IP (Internet Protocol) address, so it can be found.
When you register a domain name, you do NOT own it... you simply have the exclusive right to use it as long as it stays registered
to you. You automatically have the right to renew the registration when it falls due, so you cannot lose your domain name,
as long as you keep it registered, and you don't break any rules which would cause you to lose the right to the name.
It's like registration of a motor vehicle. It denotes that the vehicle "belongs" to you and no one else.
The IP address consists of four sets of numbers, such as 123.456.78.910. To be able toconnect to any particular computer
on the Internet, you need to know its IPaddress. As numbers are hard to remember, “domain names” are used instead
to identify IP addresses.
Once you register your domain name, that domain can be "delegated" to your chosen "hosting server".
You house or "host" your domain and web site on the server which is a large computer permanently connected to the Internet.
Any e-mails that are addressed to your domain (such as fred@mydomain.com.au) arrive at the right hosting server where
you can download them to your desktop or portable computer... and anyone in the world can find your web site
(www.yourdomain.com.au) hosted within your domain on the same server computer.
